As British luxury car manufacturer Bentley celebrates its centenary year on July 21, 2019, the company’s drive for innovation can be traced throughout its history.

The legendary 1929 Blower Bentley, with a supercharged engine and sensational speed, especially with Bentley Boy, Sir Henry “Tim” Birkin behind the wheel, won legions of motor sport fans around the world.

A hundred year’s later and Bentley’s innovative prowess continues to win the hearts of car enthusiasts with its 2019 Continental GT. This is the third generation since Volkswagen bought the company in 1998 but the latest model redefines the grand tourer in one full swoop: power. With the 6.0-liter twin- turbocharged W12 TSI engine you can forget A, you just end up at B in 3.7 seconds. It can hit a top speed of 333 km/h, and
compared to the 2011 model, the power of the 2019 GT has increased monumentally from 590hp and 720Nm of torque to an impressive 626hp and 900Nm, giving it a spectacular passing ability, helped along by the smoother shifting dual-clutch 8-speed transmission.

Speaking of torque, the Bang and Olufsen 16 active speakers and powerful 1,500 watt BeoCore amplifier deliver strong and authentic sound and the BeoSonic audio adjustment interface let’s you pick from four different audio moods— Bright, Energetic, Warm and Relaxed, with corresponding LED colors. Other tailor-made interior features include the world’s first three-way rotating dashboard (modeled after James Bond’s revolving number plate). A button marked “screen” rotates the display to show three classic analogue dials, a  tactile touchscreen or simply a continuation of the dash.

The 2019 Continental GT launch date was pushed back six months because the company felt they hadn’t perfected the car’s unrivaled mix of opulence, performance and character, a combination that has resulted in 70,000 cars sold worldwide since 2015.
Was it worth the wait?

A remarkable drive, especially for the price (€215,000).
