“It was love at first sight,” says Romain Goiran on finding his dream location Villa Plage in Calvi to launch his “Chill Out on the Bay” adventure. He added: “Everyone knows the special history and close ties that have always united Corsica and Monaco.”
The manager of Ambitious Monte-Carlo Boxing successfully put on a Gala evening of boxing, art, gastronomy, music, and opera with emcee Delia Grace Noble, the name behind The Princes Ball in Monaco.
Event sponsor Louis Ducruet (pictured above with Goiran) was in Corsica for the Chill Out on the Bay on July 6. “I am delighted to have been able to attend this first event organized by Ambitious Monte-Carlo. The evening was a real success, the setting is idyllic, the organization very successful. I also liked the idea of donating funds to the hospital in Calvi, thanks to the paintings of Julien Marinetti. It is an initiative that I think is important to congratulate,” commented Princess Stephanie’s eldest son.
The inaugural sporting event, sponsored by OSONYQ sports drink and Zilia mineral water, sold out with some 70 people on hand. Although the match started at 9:30 p.m, the crowd was entertained from 8 by musical guests Jack and the Kings from Nice as they enjoyed various Corsican dishes.
But it was the action in the sea-facing ring the brought the night home. Double French champion Bruno Surace fighting it out with Hassan “El Fenomeno” N’Dam, multiple world champion who won the first Ambitious Monte-Carlo Boxing trophy. In round 8, it was N’Dam who give the final blow for a definitive knock out.
“I was feeling very good, especially physically. I was able to put on the pressure from the first round and show him who was boss,” said an elated Hassan N'Dam, who had not had a fight in 18 months.
He added, "I rediscovered my sport. Boxing a meter and a half from the sea with the ring on the sand, in front of a different audience, it was special for me. The organization kept all its promises.”
For Goiran, it was “a team victory.” He is keeping mum about where Ambitious Monte-Carlo will put its ring for the next Chill Out but teased “one thing is for sure, you will be surprised.”
