A guest on Monaco Info last night, Chief Digital Officer Frédéric Genta said that by the end of the year, “85% of Monegasques will have access to the fastest fiber in the world.”
As part of Monaco’s digital transition, which includes the launch of 5G in 2019 and the Sovereign Cloud, which is currently being tested, fiber optic cable has now been laid underground across the country. “Fiber is the foundation of our digital power capability. Businesses and individuals will have a faster, more stable and non-saturated network,” Genta commented.
The new technology is ten times faster than the current coax technology. “Fiber is a real asset in a Covid and post-Covid world,” the Monegasque explained. “Residents will have better TV and better Wifi, which responds to the need to working from home, video conferencing and performance.”
With this innovative Wifi 6, and 5G for mobiles offering better connectivity, “Monaco will have the best digital infrastructure in the world by the end of the year.”
Residents can check eligibility for fiber technology by entering their address on Monaco Telecom’s website and, if applicable, an appointment will be set up for a technician to install the new Wifi 6 box. Businesses can check eligibility from June.
