A Balearic Boltho

Article first published in Forbes Monaco March 2022/ April 22.

Why the boutique hotel Pentunia is Ibiza’s hidden sanctuary.

Located some 30 KM off the western coast of Ibiza, Es Vedra is legendary.

The Spanish island is linked to Homer’s Odyssey where it was believed to be home of sirens, the mythical creatures who lured sailors to their death with their song. Later Es Vedra was connected to the lost civilization of Atlantis, with its tip believed to be the only part that remained above the water after the island sank into the sea.

These days, the iconic island 400-meters above sea level can be viewed in all its glory from the boutique hotel Petunia Ibiza. Steps from the sparkling shores of Cala CarboĢ, the under- the-radar hideaway was curated “with the intention of providing a dreamlike atmosphere, leaving guests no choice but to surrender to the true Mediterranean way of life.”

Reopening April 15 following renovations, the Ibizan hotel will be unveiling new rooms and additional shared spaces including an outdoor piazza and extended kitchen gardens along with a small yet discreet outdoor gym. All of the rustic rooms have been completely refurbished and updated with new bathrooms and floors while fourteen of the former two- bedroom finca-style rooms have been transformed into luxury one-bedroom Sea View & Garden Suites, complete with living room, small kitchen and outdoor shower. The three two- bedroom suites have also had a facelift offering the perfect space for bigger groups to share while the luxurious Es Vedra Junior Suite includes four private rooftop terraces.

Solidifying its status as the place to chill this summer, the Pentunia has upped its dining experiences with a new sushi restaurant on La Mirada Rooftop and Le Mesa Escondida featuring traditional Mediterranean dishes with a modern twist. Los Olivos, renowned for the best wood-oven pizzas on the island, has expanded its menu to include other Italian classics. Pop-ups in the Piazza are planned and will offer gourmet tacos and ceviches, using the freshest catch of the day. The onsite huerto (vegetable garden) guarantees chef Lorenzo access to luscious fresh produce for all his dishes. Petunia Boutique will showcase local designers and provide a rotating program of fashion events and pop-ups with other well-known boutiques from Ibiza and Formentera.

Among the manicured lush gardens that line the swimming pool, guests can feel world’s away from the hustle and bustle of daily life but with all with the convenience of the quaint San Jose village just 10 minutes away.

The complimentary yoga classes are offered by the resident yogi on the rooftop, where the sweeping views overlooking Es Vedra and the 155 million-year-old tumble of limestone, will incite dreams of your own odyssey. And if that dream is to party in Ibiza, the town is only a 30-minute drive away.
