Men’s World No 1 Tennis Player Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Monaco resident, Novak Djokovic, has tested positive for Covid-19, the Serbian said in a statement today, despite showing no symptoms.

“I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that everyone will be fine,” the statement read, adding that his wife Jelena also tested positive. His two children,  Stefan, five, and Tara, two, returned negative results.

The couple was tested after returning to Belgrade from Zadar, Croatia, where  Djokovic organized the Adria Tour exhibition tournament.

Fellow ATP player and Monaco resident Grigor Dimitrov announced he had coronavirus on Sunday, making him the 100th case confirmed in the Principality.

Djokovic, Dimitrov and Viktor Troicki have all tested positive after playing in the open, where players did not wear masks or respect social distancing.

The final match of the tournament was cancelled.

Djokovic is ranked No. 68 on the Forbes 2020 Celebrity 100 Earnings with an estimated net worth of  $44.6 million.
